Susanna Hoffs is 64 in the photograph on the left (and not much younger than 64 in the photograph on the right). You might know her as the stunning singer of The Bangles — they who walk like Egyptians in an eternal flame on a manic Monday.
Why do some elderly ladies not look like old women ?
There’s the typical stuff —
- Do NOT smoke — smoking is besides very bad for your health, also very bad for your looks. Smokers ALWAYS look older (and are in fact older due to the bad state their body is in). Smoking is another word for dying.
- Do NOT tan — sun tanning is besides very bad for your health (you are virtually begging for skin cancer if you’re a tanner), also very bad for the way your skin looks. It basically wrinkles you up. Ironically, those who sun-tan tan to look better, only to look much worse.
A healthy mind certainly also helps — depression tends to take itself out on our appearance — and there’s something to be said about food and diet, but most of it is false. And just to be clear: that gluten-free diet will not make you healthier, or better looking. The idea is totally fake.
But in the end, even if you respect all those tips, your genes are the ones who kill the party.
You might be someone who never tans, nor smokes and drinks, eats virtually no red meat and drinks carrot juice and eat your daily healthy amount of gluten, sports two hours per day and finds yoga more important than your own children —
And still you look older than your peers. (And it kills you.)
Some time ago I went to a school reunion, and it was shocking to see how badly some people of my class had aged — the self-declared prom queen looked as if she could be my mother. Only more wrinkled.
She looked at us and did not understand how come we literally looked 10 years younger than she did, but in our case without the Botox, expensive anti-wrinkle creams, and in my own case, adding insult to injury, coming with chronic sleep deprivation, alcohol abuse, and most anything which is not healthy but really enjoyable.
She totally missed the one thing she did not do nor feel in order to look like we do (and Susanna Hoffs for that matter), besides the incredible genes we were blessed with —
WE ARE HAPPY.
