“I met Jessica today at Kroger. She was outside, struggling with some very heavy carts in the wind as part of her job.
Just as I walked by, I saw a grumpy woman in a car roll down her window and yell at Jessica for being in her way. Jessica looked so embarrassed that she almost cried. I walked over, put my arm around her, and told her she hadn’t done anything wrong. She was doing a great job, and some people are just grumpy.
We went into the store together, and she wanted me to stay while she told her manager what happened. Even while explaining the story, she got upset again.
I told the manager that Jessica had handled everything well and hadn’t done anything wrong. I also asked how many people with special needs they had working there. The manager said they had at least 12 and never turned anyone away if they wanted a job.
A big shout-out to Kroger in New Albany for being so supportive and inclusive!”
