Philip Paxson was a 47-year-old father of two daughters, living in Hickory, North Carolina.
On September 30, 2022, the family held a camping-themed birthday party for one of their daughters. After the party, Philip stayed behind to clean up while his wife drove their kids home.
Later that night, Philip, who wasn’t familiar with the area, used Google Maps to find his way home to his family.
Unfortunately, the map led him over a bridge that had collapsed in 2013, called the Snow Creek Bridge. Philip followed the directions, and his car went off the bridge, falling 20 feet into the creek below. He tragically died, trapped inside his car.
On September 21, 2023, Philip’s wife, Alecia Paxson, filed a lawsuit against Google and two other companies involved in the incident, seeking justice for the loss of her husband.
